The move "The Battle of Bongo-dong"
Do you know the movie "The Battle of Bongo-dong"?
The last time, I posted about the painful history of Korea and Japan about 100 years ago.
This time,
I will post about how many Koreans have organized and fought for independence against Japan.
Currently showing on Netflix, "Mr. Sunshine",
If you've seen "Mr. Sunshine", you might understand a little about the history of Korea and Japan.
And if you've also seen the movie "The Battle of Bongo-dong", you may know it more realistically.
Maybe, when Many Japanese, who don't know about the history of Korea and Japan, saw "Mr. Sunshine" and "the battle of Bongo-dong",
they may say it's too exaggerated.
The war is to die and kill,
The side that started the war is in a position to subdue and conquer at any cost.
Since the one being invaded must prevent to risk their lives,
it's natural to fight for their lives.
The reaction of Japanese people who saw "Mr. Sunshine" was Japan's invasion of Joseon was exaggerated.
Koreans' reaction is Japan's invasion of Joseon was too glorified.
We learned the history about that time, Japan insisted they came in to Joeson for Joseon's modernization
But we didn't really want.
If we had wanted to modernize, it had to do by ourselves.
We were indignant at the dethronement of Joseon king, the forcible military presence in the palace, and the usurpation of sovereignty.
We expressed our intentions in a variety of ways.
3.1 independence movement (3.1 운동) was a non-violent.
But Japan tried to subdue Joseon with a violent response.
So many people died innocently, many people sacrificed their lives for independence.
1910's,
Independence Army (독립의군부), Korea Liberation Association (대한광복회), West Army (서로군정서), North Army (북로군정서), Korean Liberation Army Government (대한 광복군 정부), etc.
1920's
Fiercely Doing Righteous Work (의열단), Korean Independence Army (Hong Beom-do, Battle of Bongo-dong) (대한독립군), North Army (Kim Jwa-jin, Battle of Cheongsan-ri) (북로군정서), Korea Independence Corps (대한독립군단), etc
1930's
Korean Patriotic Corps (한인애국단), Korean Independence Army (대한독립군), Joseon Revolutionary Army (조선혁명군), Joseon Warriors Organization (조선의용대), etc
1940's
Korean Liberation Army (한국광복군), Joseon Volunteer Army (조선의용군)
I'm not sure if I transfered the name of this organization to English well, So I also wrote Hangeul next to it.
These organizations, whose names are just listed, changed their names through various processes, and carried out independence movements while being integrated or divided in democratic or socialist circles.
Thanks to them, our students who are learning Korean history have a lot to memorize because they appear on the exam.
However, as much as there is much to memorize,
We are also very very grateful for the sacrifices of those who fought for our independence.
